Auditory Evoked Brainstem Potentials (AEP)
Measuring auditory evoked brainstem potentials (AEP) is used to examine the function of the auditory nerve and parts of the auditory pathway within the brain. Activity triggered in the brain by sound stimuli is transmitted through the surrounding tissue to the scalp, where it can be recorded with sensitive equipment. Recording AEPs is valuable, among other things, for diagnosing tumours of the brain and auditory nerve, tinnitus, dizziness, hearing disorders, and multiple sclerosis.
