Dementia Diagnostics

Degenerative dementias, especially Alzheimer's-type dementia, are among the most common chronic conditions of old age. Over the past ten years, considerable progress has been made in Alzheimer's research. New treatment methods can, in many cases, slow the progression of the disease. However, successful treatment depends on starting as early as possible. 15 % of people over 85 and 2 % of those over 65 already suffer from Alzheimer's dementia.

Afterwards, we discuss the results and possible treatment options in detail. Depending on the findings, we may arrange further tests such as comprehensive neuropsychological assessment or cerebral imaging.

Please bring a current medication plan to your first appointment and, if available, recent laboratory results (no older than one year). If a cerebral imaging study (cMRI, cCT) has already been performed, please also bring those findings with you.

The examination includes:

a detailed medical history
a thorough neurological examination
screening neuropsychological tests
laboratory diagnostics to rule out metabolic disorders or vitamin deficiencies
if needed, a duplex ultrasound of the carotid and intracranial arteries to assess cerebral blood flow
an electroencephalogram (EEG)
if needed, referral for cerebral imaging
