Sensory and Motor Nerve Conduction Studies (NCS)
This examination assesses the function of the motor (muscle-supplying) and sensory (sensation-perceiving) nerves. The technique works via electrical stimulation: the nerve is excited and the resulting responses are recorded with surface electrodes.
Clinical applications include diagnostics in:
nerve inflammation
entrapment syndromes such as carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS)
nerve injuries
nerve damage such as polyneuropathy
